Showers and cameras. I don’t actually mix them.

Showers are weird. Have you ever thought that? They’re actually weird.

How did they come about? History shows most people bathed in baths or had pots of water and cloths. I guess, thus the term “bathing”.

How did we evolve to stand under a spray of water?

It’s actually kind of absurd when you think about it.

Yes I have some random thoughts, but I think this one sprung from Sister finally being able to have an actual shower again.

Since the February 22 earthquake her and Brother-in-law have been using wet-wipes, bowls, flannels, showers in a can etc etc. Their hot water cylinder has finally been fixed and they can *technically* shower again.

Whether the water is safe or not is another question, but it’s not like they’ll be drinking it, right?

Anyway…

There’s a wiki page on the history of showers. The idea originally came from waterfalls (no surprises there, they are nature’s shower after all). Ancient Greeks were the ones to basically form what would look like the modern shower. However with the introduction of Christianity, washing ones self became a taboo.

Bloody Christianity – it has to be the biggest conspiracy of it all (but that’s possibly another discussion for another day).

It wasn’t until the 20th century that they because a common thing again.

I’m now wondering why the hell I felt the need to actually google “showers”. I actually did it. How do you think I found the wiki page?

Yes, feel free to commit me to an insane asylum now because I have just written an entire post about showers.

Maybe I should elaborate about the rest of my day?

Not much at all except, I can has new camera! Canon EOS 1000D with twin lens kit. I don’t have it yet, but I can go pick it up on Thursday. They didn’t have any in the Hastings store of Noel Lemmings, so they’re getting one in. Not sure where from. Probably Napier. They guy obviously wanted the sale though.

Ended up going to Noel’s because Harvey Norman’s had sold out and they person who told us this was not very helpful. Obviously, having an advertised special, once they sell out they get no more in. How ridiculous.

I went round to see friend with kid tonight. I think I’m allergic to cats. She has two tabby cats. The kitten really likes me and wouldn’t leave me alone. I sneezed a lot while I was there. I still am. My eyes are itchy, my throat feels weird and my hands are itchy and have these little white bumps forming on my fingers. :-/

My nose is now completely blocked.

I think I need to wait to try and sleep until the allergies have settled down a bit. So I might try and do another blog post or two on my other blogs and maybe some photography work.

I’m finally getting into it again and I can’t wait to start taking some awesome photos with my new camera. I’ll probably be putting them up on Tumblr, but I will link that if I feel like it. I’m undecided.

Camera was a birthday present from parents. My 24th birthday present. Sigh. 24.

I has to be a grown-up now?

Today has been all over the place.

I only woke up at 1pm today. I did not mean for that to happen, but I just did. Guess I must’ve needed the sleep.

I had a pretty disturbing dream last night. It’s still running through my mind.

I was kidnapped and sexually abused. People kept trying to find me, but couldn’t get me away from my captor.

Whoever it was, they finally released me, but they found me again once I had gotten back to my life. They became part of it. I finally managed to gather the strength to tell someone about it, to get them out of my life again. But the torment just kept happening and nothing seemed to get done about it.

I was extremely disturbed at this dream. I’ve never had a dream like this before. It left me on edge and wondering what it all meant. What exactly was my sub-conscious trying to process?

I remember being so frustrated in the dream about not being able to escape or get what needed to be said out.

Anyway, after I managed to get the disturbed feeling to go away, I took Mother into town again. She wanted to go shopping.

It paid off because she bought me a couple of tops that I can wear to work, when I get a job.

I also bought a new dress and some stockings from Farmers with a gift card I got for my birthday.

Yay new stockings!

I had pancakes for dinner, with lemon and sugar. Lemon off our tree too! Nice and fresh. It made me feel better having brinner, because I needed some sugary goodness because some people can be so cruel.

Another thing – how can people be so cruel to people they don’t know? You just form an opinion of a person without even talking to them. Or poke your nose in where it doesn’t belong and is unwanted. What is wrong with the human race?

I guess it comes back to the old adage of some people just need to be shot.

My descent into Hell…

Previously on A Day In The Life Of An Unemployed Journalist…

LolJKs.

I just thought that would be an interesting introduction. I haven’t written since Saturday, so I’ll catch up on a few things.

Here’s what you missed:

Sunday I woke up and Man Piece made me crepe/pancaky things. They weren’t thin enough for a crepe, but not thick enough for a pancake. Thus the double naming. We put lemon and sugar on them.

NOM NOM NOM.

I *might* just keep him around for a bit.

We got all packed up and got on the road back to Hell (if you haven’t caught on yet, Hell = Hastings. As in, my own personal one).

Four hours later we arrived in Hawke’s Bay. I even let Man Piece drive, mostly because I was so ridiculously tired and just wanted to close my eyes. Turns out that was possibly a bad idea.

He likes to push a few boundaries. He definitely pushed those of Chewy, getting the poor old rust bucket up to *cough*140*cough*

We had to go drop off some server thingys to one of Man Piece’s colleagues. In return for this, we got petrol paid for. Yay! *wavy hands*

For the rest of Sunday night, we just blobbed. We watched The Book of Eli, which I was told had a pretty awesome ending, and sure it was, but I expected more. I think I need to watch it again.

Monday, I did nothing. Actually I lie, I watched Letters to Juliet, which is mostly nothing. I didn’t really get out of bed until 4pm-ish.

I then went and met Man Piece at Te Pania Hotel, where we were staying the night.

Swanky. I should have swiped the soap.

We went for dinner at Lone Star. Where I had the unfortunate event of eating corn.

BLERG.

I was unaware that there was any in the chicken tortilla that I had ordered. Although the kahlua and mars bar cheesecake and lemon meringue pie made up for it.

The rest of the night involved occupying Man Piece enough so as not to turn back to his laptop.

He’s even named it Snagglepuff. We have a love/hate relationship.

Couch day and a whole heap of musicals.

I lay on the couch all day. I was feeling a tad ‘ew’. After the night before of drinking and walking and staying up late and lack of sleep.

It was officially a couch day.

I watched Big Bang Theory and pigged out on masses of food – Chicken bites, hashbrowns, muffin splits with PB&J and coke. Cannot forget the coke.

I did not put on proper clothes.

Clothes are overrated.

Then people started to turn up at #geekflat. Needless to say I was not presentable for company, but I didn’t care. I did not accommodate them with proper clothes.

People were gathering for #geekflat musical night.

Twas awesome.

We watched Rent, The Wizard of Oz and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I also ate an entire packet of those licorice chocolate logs and had a few more drinks.

Hair of the dog, etc.

I then went to sleep after people left, because yanno, it was 2am and all.

Hectic-ness, Lobster, Bacon and I met THE parents.

Sorry I am not blogging as much as I should be my little munchkins. I has been rather busy.

I should get the bad news out of the way first. Had a job interview on Friday morning. I thought it went quite well and I kept thinking “third time’s the charm!” Well, I was wrong. That afternoon I got the call saying they were going with someone else.

Great.

Life of the unemployed journalist shall continue. Just as I will continue applying for various jobs. I actually haven’t thought what I will do with this blog once I get a job as a journalist. Probably just a day in the life of a journalist.

HOW EXCITING.

Anyway, hang out with @LittleIchiban for the afternoon. Then I met Man Piece’s parents!

:O

I was rather nervous beforehand, but they’re actually pretty cool. Much cooler than him. Tehehe!

We then drove back to Hastings, which resulted in me being super tired, but it was fun, nonetheless.

Saturday I decided to introduce Man Piece to some of the good things about Hastings.

Yes, there are good things about Hastings. Don’t laugh.

Took him to all day breakfast at Mondo, which he says he enjoyed and up Te Mata Peak to see the fantastic views it offers.

I think he was more excited about driving back down again with the one lane, winding road. He wanted to do at speed. *shudder* Thankfully there was another car going down at the same time as us, so it stopped him being too crazy.

What surprised me was, Man Piece had never had Rush Monro’s ice cream before. So I took him to the original garden ice cream bar on Heretaunga St. We both had maple walnut.

Totes match made in heaven.

We had dinner with my family and then headed out to Benny Boo Boo Bear’s Purple Pimp Pad for some drinking and general shenanigans.

Sunday, somehow, we managed to sleep in without realising it, so it was a mad rush to get to lunch at Coffee Club with @LittleIchiban. BECAUSE IT WAS LOBSTER’S BIRTHDAY.

I had french toast with bacon and banana.

MMMMMMM BACON.

Then it was the four hour drive back to Wellington, in which I kept thinking of things I had forgotten in my rush to pack in the half hour we had from getting back from lunch and our planned departure time. Whoops.

And today, I’ve done nothing. I needed a day of nothing. Absolute nothing. I pretty much slept until after midday and didn’t get out of bed till after one. I proceeded to watch The Big Bang Theory and general internet related stuff that is never productive.

Man Piece then came home, we went to the supermarket and he cooked me dinner. Awwwwww.

KEEPER.

Then tonight, had a good old Glee sing-along with @thatjohn. Fantastic times. We did manage to scare Man Piece though. :-/

I wonder what tomorrow will hold in store for me? Perhaps I will venture outside and down the hill? I know one thing is for sure – I desperately need to do some washing.
