Best and worst dressed.

The Golden Globes were today. Usually a day of fashion and trying to catch the celebrities doing random drunk things. This year, the fashion wasn’t that great, but I still want to say which were my favs and which weren’t.

Hate

Amanda Peet looks like she’s wearing a nighty.

Julianna Margulies has a body which is way better than this dress, which does absolutely nothing for her.

I have no words for Kelly Osborne. Unless ‘ugh’ is one. And the hair? It’s grey!

Jodie Foster looks really uncomfortable in this dress. I feel the skirt should be more flared at the bottom.

Freido Pinto looks like her proportions are wrong. Hem needed to be skinny, not full.

Michelle Williams looks like she should be hanging on a wall, as a curtain.

It looks like someone just grab some hot pink material and wrapped it around Natalie Portman, then tied it at the waist.

Is Jessica Beil getting married in the 19th Century?

Love

Ariel Winter is so cute in this dress. I wouldn’t mind a dress like that myself.

Tina Fey. This is the type of dress I want when I get married, except, yanno, white/cream/black/whatever.

A lot of people have been bagging on The Buffster, but personally, I love what SMG is wearing.

I don’t even know who this woman is – Katharine McPhee. But the dress is simple and elegant and I love the champagne colour.

Debra Messing wears a very similar style to SMG, which is why I love this dress. But I’d prefer the oil/water version more.

It’s elegant, yet a little punky. Just like Emma Stone, which is why I like it.

Mila Kunis. This is something that I would see potential bridesmaids wearing, for my wedding of course. (No, I’m not thinking about getting married *shifty eyes*) In black too. Also perhaps a slightly shorter hem.

This is just beautiful. I love the feathery like skirt. Helen Mirren always looks amaze in navy blue.

Male

The males always tend to dress the same – in a tux, so unless they tend to go a bit eccentric like Ricky Gervais did with his maroon tux, they don’t really stand out from any other male walking down the red carpet. But, Chris Colfer stood out, because he looks so darn cute.

(Obtained photos mostly from The Hollywood Reporter or by doing a simple, yet effective, google search.)

A soppy gross vomit-worthy post.

A lot of you probably won’t want to read this post. It’s about love or close enough to it. Vomit-worthy right? And why am I writing a post about love? Because I need to say a few things that don’t fit into the 140 characters of twitter, which is where I would usually say this type of thing.

So Man Piece has gone off to Linux Conf and left me all alone. And being alone reminds me of all the reasons I keep him around.

Getting up in the morning is easier when he’s next to me. Like, I actually want to get out of bed.

Going to the supermarket is less depressing when he’s with me.

He carries the heavy bags back from the supermarket.

When I feel like crap, like I have being today, just a hug and kiss from him makes me feel better. Plus, he does stuff for me, like getting food.

I feel safer knowing he is in the next room.

Everything is less depressing when Man Piece is around. Just the prospect of seeing him after work gets me through the day. So how am I going to get through a week without him?

I miss him. Even though he is only gone a week, it is going to be a very long, arduous week.

2011 in review.

It is the start of a new year – 2012?! How the hell did that happen? Seriously. So I thought it would be a good time to have a look at the last year and the significant events that shaped 2011 and my life. There may even be pictures!

So where was I this time last year? I rang in New Year’s drunk and alone in my bedroom because Mum and Dad had gone to bed. Yes, I was living with my parents at the time and unemployed. However that night, drunk and alone, I thought it would be a good idea to start talking to a certain boy. How very unaware I was, not knowing this small drunken act would shape the rest of my year. NO REGRETS THOUGH.

January

January started with a trip to Wellington and a job interview for TVNZ. I was ever so hopeful, having only lost my job a month previously, that this would be my new start. However it wasn’t. So I dyed my hair red when I didn’t get the job at TVNZ. Cause yanno, I can.

The same day I went for my interview, I met my future Man Piece. By the end of January it was official – 29th to be exact. You better take note, JETHRO, cause there will not be forgiveness. Especially this year, you are going to be in Wellington for it. WTF.

Don't we just make you sick?

February

February was the month that held the week from hell. After a week in Wellington with Man Piece – a Valentine’s Day on which we went up the cable car and to the observatory,  having fun with a tour of parliament and a trip to the zoo – I got the worst news of the year.

Granddad died on the 19th. Heart failure. One minute he was there, drinking a beer, the next he was gone. Just like that.

On Tuesday the 6.3 quake struck Christchurch. At first I didn’t think much of it.  I saw people in Wellington tweeting there was an earthquake, not so bad. I remember saying to Mum, “Oh, there’s just been a quake in Wellington.” She replied with something like, “Oh, really? How big?” I said it wasn’t too big and then I had to tell her. It wasn’t in Wellington. It was Christchurch. Then the tweets from Christchurch started coming in. Then the pictures and my stomach dropped. This one was different. It changed everything. Panic and fear set in. My thoughts immediately going to my sister and friends. I remember thinking “Not now. This is not meant to happen. This year was supposed to be better.” In that one minute, 2011 was worse than 2010.

The feeling of not knowing was the worst.

The next day, Mum had another surgery and we struggled to get sister out of Christchurch. We were already grieving and to have the quake and Mum’s surgery added to it… just thinking about it now I’m starting to tear up. Worst week ever.

March

Family was in town for a fair bit of March. My cousin Thomas and his wife Tenille had planned a trip to New Zealand. Unfortunately they arrived just after Granddad’s funeral, but they were here. I finally met my baby cousin. He is ridiculously cute! Who is not so baby anymore. He’s almost two and another bub is on the way. Potentially a trip to Toronto is needed. Just sayin’.

I also had my birthday. Got an awesome present – my DSLR. It has come in handy quite a bit this year.

Being unemployed produced a fairly mundane year. April, May, June, July and August didn’t produce much of anything. I had job interviews quite regularly, but I can’t quite remember which was when. I was back and forth between Hastings and Wellington quite a bit.

We did go to the food show, which was awesome. I also finished my photography diploma – finally! My work with Oh, The Scandal finished, which was quite sad and I never found anything else to replace it.

September

September had Man Piece and I have a trip up to Auckland, which also involved a job interview, in a stroke of luck. On the way back from Auckland we by-passed Rotorua and  went to Wai-O-Tapu, which was quite awesome seeing the geyser erupt and walking around the park.

In a stroke of pure idiocy, I went snowboarding. I hated it, absolutely hated it. But for some reason, I want to do it again. But with a few less kgs.

After the pain of snowboarding, I had another few job interviews and actually got one! FINALLY.

October

October began the pack up and move to Auckland. I began work on the 10th and then over labour weekend, Man Piece and I went to Australia – Melbourne and Brisbane. I really liked Melbourne and definitely want to go back sometime soon. Oh, and I saw the Queen! The actual one!

She's the one in the green dress. You might need to zoom.

November

November was pretty quite, it involved a lot of trying to settle in to Auckland and work, but once again the powers that be wanted to upset my family and my Great Aunt Betty died. She was Granddad’s sister, so to lose both of them in the same year, was quite difficult.

I also got my new baby – the macbook air. Swoon. It is amazing and so much better than my old brick of a machine.

December

December was very much a wind down month. Not much happened and I only ended up working two weeks in the month. Man Piece and I spent Christmas in Hawke’s Bay with my family and then headed to Wellington to see his and ring in the New Year.

Current desktop

I thought I might start doing a few more random postings on this here blog of mine. Some photos, some rants, hopefully more recipes (I have the amazing cranberry and white chocolate that I made for Christmas to put up).

For today, you get to see my current desktop – thanks for the idea @thatjohn!

Taken just a short 15 minute walk from the apartment down at Takapuna Beach – behold the pohutakawas! Aren’t they so purdy?

Yes, I took this picture.

Dressember… um?

I’ve failed in Dressember.

I didn’t mean to, but I’ve never really been a dress person. It’s only being in the last year or so that I have really gotten into my dresses and skirts – with leggings! And it is because of this that I still can’t wear them all the time. It’s a slow process and I still love wearing my jeans. Even though today they split in the thigh. Awkward.

However, I do have a dress to show you from Tuesday. It is very bow-chicka-wow-wow. *imagines cartoon eye-popping*

Very “hello sailor!”, yes?

Not only because it looks like a sailor’s uniform, but also cause it shows my boobs, A LOT. Seriously, there is bra showing and when I sit down, it’s like I’m not wearing a top at all.

Note to self: wear singlet if ever to wear to work.

I bought it from City Chic (my all-time favourite store now, please don’t ever go away. And if someone is reading this – black, skinny jeans that fit me please!) It was on sale pre-christmas and got it for half price – total winning. It meant the price was actually a reasonable price.

I have worn a few dresses in the days I have missed; they were repeats though. The yellow summery dress and the tunic that has to be paired with jeans, but nothing new.

As I am now in Hastings and I essentially just chucked clothes in my suitcase, I didn’t plan very well and I have about four dresses with me. Again, awkward.
