As it turns out, I have been living under a rock. After finding new Cobra Starship, I have now discovered the video for Paramore’s “Monster” and new Panic! At The Disco.
The rock must be really huge and obviously doesn’t get much internet.
So, Panic! At the Disco split in half. The half that kept the name returned to their original sound and are awesome. It’s like Pretty. Odd was just, well, just that – pretty odd. They’ve returned to the theatrical exaggeration that was A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, but doesn’t have the same catchy awesome sound. Both are on their new album Vices & Virtues.
The Ballad of Mona Lisa:
Ready To Go:
It’s weird to see Paramore with two less members. But they still have the same energy and punch they’ve always had. I really like “Monster” and the video to it is pretty awesome. Paramore always have epic videos to accompany their songs.
I must have been living under a rock. That wouldn’t be hard lately, actually. I have had a one track mind.
Anyway, turns out Cobra Starship is making some beats again. Today I came across the single “You Make Me Feel” ft. Sabi.
No idea who this Sabi person is and I don’t really care to find out, she is definitely nothing spectacular.
And the new single doesn’t really go anywhere for me. It doesn’t have the same energy that past singles have had, like “Good Girls Go Bad”.
However Cobra Starship has the tendency to create songs that don’t sound so great when you first listen to them and then one day you realise, actually this is amazing. That’s what happened with their last album for me.
So with the new single they also have a new album Night Shades. Even thought I’m not completely wowed by this first single, if I know Cobra Starship, the album will most likely be pretty good, even if it doesn’t wow you on the first listen.
I might listen to “You Make Me Feel” a few more times before obtaining the soundtrack – it’s got to be worth the money, yanno? So watch this space for an album review, but in the mean time here is the new single.
So the big news in the entertainment world today is that Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London apartment.
Wow.
Kind of came out of the blue that one. When I read the news on twitter, I was actually shocked.
In all honesty, I’ve never been a huge fan of her. It’s her voice. It kind of grates me like Macy Gray. But I will admit she was a very skilled song writer. The lyrics and sound of her albums were awesome.
I developed this opinion when I heard the Glee version of ‘Rehab’. When I heard Winehouse singing it, I hated it. But when Glee did it, I fell in love with it.
I was really shocked at the news, because of the few articles I’ve written about her in recent months.
The first was this one about how she was clean and starting to get her life in order. She wanted to move to the country and have kids!
So how did she end up dead in her apartment this morning from a supposed drug overdose? One can only speculate, but the coroner’s report is sure going to need to answer some questions. Did she relapse and just take too much? Or did she mix alcohol and drugs? Who knows.
The other article I wrote was about Winehouse already having completed her new album, but it being delayed because she was entering rehab as a precaution before hitting the road.
So is there an album all ready to go, just waiting for a release date to be announced by record execs? Maybe. Only time will tell, because if it’s finished, there’s no point in letting it sit around not being listened to.
From today’s news reports she didn’t do too well on the road, having performed drunk and not impressing fans. So maybe this is the reason for a possible relapse and consequent death?
I’m just speculating, it will be interesting to watch what comes of it in the coming days and weeks.
But as someone mentioned on Twitter earlier today, she is another one to join the 27 Club.
Amy Winehouse: September 14 1983 – July 23 2011. Aged 27.
Rebecca Black has a new single, ‘My Moment’, you might have heard it.
I actually think it’s better that ‘Friday’, cause that was really bad, let’s admit.
By the sound of the lyrics, she’s having a go at everyone who said mean things about her post ‘Friday’ release.
She’s still not that great, but at least this single is not so annoyingly bad. It still sounds like manufactured pop and not that of a really great singer, but hey, she’s improved.
There are still more dislikes than likes on the video, which has had more than 12 million views on YouTube.
Somehow, if she wanted fame, she’s definitely got it.
There are a few songs that I’m really getting into lately, so I thought I would share them with you all.
First up is Demi Lovato. Now she’s been going through a bit of stuff lately, with a trip to rehab and making it public that she has cut her self in the past. She is absolutely amazing for doing that. It proves that she has some serious internal strength.
Now that she is back on the road to recovery, she has released a new single, “Skyscraper”. It is so raw with emotion, I absolutely love it. It will likely be one of those songs that I listen to for years to come. She has said that she recorded the song before she entered rehab and once she came out tried again, but it didn’t have the same emotion it had the first time. Hopefully, now that she’s all better, she won’t lose the ability to sing that way.
Second is Jessie J with her single “Price Tag”. I first heard this on a very rare occasion that I was listening to the radio. I immediately got it stuck in my head. I see it been one of those big hits – which it is, it’s already been at number one here in New Zealand – but not being one that hangs around. It’ll be one of those songs that when you hear it playing somewhere like a club in a few years time, you’ll recognise it and remember that you loved this song and be able to sing along to it.
It might even be a one-hit wonder for her to. I’m not really digging her other singles. So, for me, it’s a ‘I like this song, but don’t really like her as an artist’.
Lady Gaga. She has a new album and I have blogged about her new stuff before. However, when I got her new album, it just didn’t really do anything for me, so I stopped listening to it. But lately, I’ve been hearing more of the songs off the album and it is really starting to grow on me. Her first album, Monster, was one that you liked straight way, but Born This Way is one of those albums you need to spend some time listening to and it will eventually grow on you. The one that really secured it for me was “The Edge Of Glory”. I didn’t think much of it at first, but I’ve been hearing it around more and more and it has since grown on me.
That’s all! Hope you enjoy. What are you listening to lately?
