Fashion Fabulous: City Chic has a sale – I spend up large

I love clothes. I especially love clothes from City Chic. It is my favourite store, and pretty much the only store that I shop from. So when they have a sale, like the one they had last week, I shop a lot.

Adding to this is that Sydney has started to get colder and I find myself in the predicament that is I have no winter clothes because I left them all in New Zealand.

In the CC sale I bought a few basics and few statement pieces. All of them pretty much more than 50% off. Win!

So here are some of the new additions to my wardrobe.

The Two Cats Top with one of last year’s black blazers with stripped lining, paired with Rock My World skinny jeans, now sold-out online.

One where I actually show my face! Notice the studded detail on the shoulder – very in this season.

I bought several of these Basic Puff Sleeve tops. They are so comfortable and come in numerous colours. I got them in this blue colour, teal, black, and purple. they will serve me well over winter in Sydney. Paired with the skinny jeans again.

Paired here with the Studded Military Jacket. I coveted this for quite some time and resisted buying it at full-price. When it went on sale, there were no questions about buying it. I love it. This has also sold-out online. Here you can also see the detail on the back pockets of the jeans.

Here is the black puff sleeve top, which goes well with Baroque Print skirt, which is sold-out. Ain’t that the way with sales!

And here I am trying to actually be a model. Yeah, nah.

This is the Lace Contrast tunic. Lace is amazing – delicate and pretty, it adds nice detail to plain pieces.

I paired the tunic with the Lace Panel leggings. Possibly a bit too much lace for one outfit, but I don’t care – I LOVE LACE. (Also, Man Piece hasn’t quite mastered the art of getting photos in focus – if only I could be in the photos and take them.)

This is the Dark Lace tunic, again with the lace! It is the same cut as the Lace Contrast tunic, but totally different. I paired with the Lace Panel leggings again.

Below is the Sequin Stripped Jumper. It’s quite a light jumper, so will be good over a singlet, but under a jacket. Man Piece says I look like a panda. I’m fine with it. I’m also wearing my TDF Apple Skinny jeans – the hands-down best jeans I have ever owned. If you want a pair of jeans, get these, or at least the TDF jeans to suit your body style, you cannot go wrong. I have a plain black singlet on underneath.

IMG_2750_1As you can see, I definitely splurged a little. There is just something about City Chic I cannot resist – the clothes fit and they are definitely my style.

Yay for new clothes!

Things I Hate About Australia.

So, Man Piece and I have been in Australia for almost three months now and it would seem that the “honeymoon” phase of a new country/city is drawing to a close.

I’m starting to find more and more things that I hate about Australia/Sydney, which ultimately make me miss home like made.

So I have decided to make a list, just to get things off my chest and maybe, thanks to @thomasbeagle‘s suggestion, in six months time I will make a “Things I Love About Australia” list.

Here goes:

  • The coins – the fact they are so big and that there are still 5c pieces. 5c pieces are SO over.
  • The heat.
  • The humidity.
  • The people – the pure number of people and also, a lot of them can be right ol’ C U NEXT TUESDAYS.
  • The lack of EFTPOS, especially in small denominations. I also find it ironic how there are advertisements on buses saying, “EFTPOS, the way Australia pays” which is absolutely false.
  • The time it takes to get anywhere.
  • Nice places being shut on weekends, particularly around where we live in the CBD, cafes etc.
  • People not understanding my accent – it happens surprisingly often.
  • Lack of culture.
  • Alcohol pricing.
  • Not being able to buy alcohol in supermarkets.
  • Certain shops not being anywhere near the CBD, or any place that is even easy to get to. E.g. City Chic, Autograph, places like Kmart or Big W (which I find is a lot like the Warehouse)
  • There being no big red sheds! I actually miss going and getting bargains – Target (and even Myer) failed me today when I tried to go and buy a cheap hand beater and spring-form cake tin. I’m actually going to have to make a specific trip out to Macquarie Park now just to go to Big W to try and find them.
  • Not being able to split bills when going out for a meal with friends.
  • An outdated payment system for transport. Seriously, install a tap card system already, it is so much easier and allows flexibility.
  • The bugs, oh my god, the bugs.
  • The heat.
  • Non-air conditioned public transport, especially in 30° heat – which is often!
  • The huge number of homeless people – it is actually shocking – and how they constantly ask you for money and if you say, “No, sorry” they abuse you.
  • The noise – it’s enough to keep you up at night.
  • Having to walk everywhere – my feet are so sore ALL THE TIME – but the alternative is driving with EVERY OTHER SINGLE PERSON and not being able to find parking, or having to pay ridiculous parking costs.
  • Our shit came-with-the-apartment TV – where does a Celestial ChangHong TV come from, anyway?
  • The fact I sweat constantly now because of the heat. I feel gross ALL THE TIME.
  • The ridiculous price I paid for contraceptives at the pharmacy – I will be happy to pay the $5 price when I eventually return to NZ. Hell of a lot better than $25.

That’s about all I can think of right now. A few of those really got to me today and just seriously pissed me off. Especially the coin one – I was given $1.50 in change all in 10c pieces. If only there had been a homeless person asking for money in Chatswood. (It has now been put in our cute little Owl money jar.)

Australia is not all bad though, while writing this list, I have managed to think of things which are better than New Zealand, like the speed of internet and how awesome the public transport actually is, despite its payment methods and dodgy air-conditioning.

And even with all these things that I hate, which would probably make anyone re-think their decision to move to the Western Island, the one thing that is going to stop me going back right now is my job, because I am absolutely loving it.

Dressember… um?

I’ve failed in Dressember.

I didn’t mean to, but I’ve never really been a dress person. It’s only being in the last year or so that I have really gotten into my dresses and skirts – with leggings! And it is because of this that I still can’t wear them all the time. It’s a slow process and I still love wearing my jeans. Even though today they split in the thigh. Awkward.

However, I do have a dress to show you from Tuesday. It is very bow-chicka-wow-wow. *imagines cartoon eye-popping*

Very “hello sailor!”, yes?

Not only because it looks like a sailor’s uniform, but also cause it shows my boobs, A LOT. Seriously, there is bra showing and when I sit down, it’s like I’m not wearing a top at all.

Note to self: wear singlet if ever to wear to work.

I bought it from City Chic (my all-time favourite store now, please don’t ever go away. And if someone is reading this – black, skinny jeans that fit me please!) It was on sale pre-christmas and got it for half price – total winning. It meant the price was actually a reasonable price.

I have worn a few dresses in the days I have missed; they were repeats though. The yellow summery dress and the tunic that has to be paired with jeans, but nothing new.

As I am now in Hastings and I essentially just chucked clothes in my suitcase, I didn’t plan very well and I have about four dresses with me. Again, awkward.

Dressember: day 14.

You know how sometimes when you wake up, you know instantly what you want to wear? Today was one of those days. And unfortunately, I knew I did not want to wear a dress.

I knew no matter what dress I picked out, I would not be happy in it. So I broke with Dressember again and wore jeans.

I’M SORRY.

But to try and keep with the feeling of oh so pretty, I wore a purdy top. It was all frilly and florally.

Pretty, yes? It’s from City Chic. It’s also very boobalicious.

I was struggling most of the day to not show my bra. Probably not the best top to wear to work. But it was cool and Auckland has ridiculous humidity.

Dressember: day 11.

Sunshine, daisies, butter, mellow – turn this stupid fat rat yellow.

Jokes, I’m not a rat, but I was turned yellow for the day.

BEHOLD THE AMAZINGNESS WHICH IS MY NEW SUMMER DRESS.

Please ignore my stupid pose, I was being a twat.

I swear I could probably do a month of blog posts about the stupid poses or faces I pull when getting my photo taken. I just can’t stand there and smile. I think part of it is that I hate having my photo taken – I like being behind the lens – so I have to do something stupid every time to make the picture bad. That’s some stupid thinking, but hey, here I am with no good pictures AT ALL.

I bought it yesterday from City Chic. I LOVE IT. It’s bright, comfortable and the fabric feels so good. It was amazing wearing it today, except when we ventured in to Ponsonby and the clouds decided to come in and the wind was cold. Then it was not so great, but for summer, I’m going to be as cool as a cucumber.
