Review: Alexia – Kmart’s plus size range

I don’t really need an excuse to head to Kmart – I love the homewares and exercise gear. But I would often look at the Alexia range and never find anything that I really liked.

So when I received an email saying the range had had a refresh and that more focus was being put on the plus size range by Kmart designers, I was intrigued as to what I would find.

So a trip out to Kmart in Porirua was needed.

The Alexia range has definitely had a refresh – I tried on a lot of pieces. Roughly 18 pieces in total, there were rotations and a bit of a change-room circus.

Spin the Pin – May

The lovely Jo from iCurvy has created a new blogging challenge which I thought I would have a go at.

It is called Spin the Pin and each month Jo will choose an outfit from Pinterest where we take inspiration from it to create an outfit of our own. It sounded like such a cool idea, so here I am.

May’s outfit was to take inspiration from this pin:

I thought of a couple of ideas, but ultimately I landed on this:

I took inspiration from the trench coat and the loose, chic layering of the outfit. I even attempted to keep a somewhat monochromatic palette.

Outfit details:

Trench: I recently picked this up in the City Chic sale. It is the Caramel Kisses Trench and I have fallen in love with it.

Top: This is the New Look Inspire Longline Turn Back Tee I recently got from ASOS. It offers a relaxed, chic look and would be great with leggings or jeans, as I’m wearing here.

Jeans: Zip Me Skinnies in blue from City Chic.

Scarf: Another recent purchase from Ruby Shoes.

Boots: Ziera

Beanie: Cotton On

Necklace: Catch Coeur jewellery from the Rocks markets in Sydney.

Handbag: Nica from Farmers.

Make sure you check out the other spins here, or on Instagram with the hashtag #spinthepin.

Aussie Curves – Favourite Store

I’m in two minds about my favourite store.

The store I likely buy most of my clothes from is City Chic, mostly because I know they are going to fit and the clothes suit my style.

I remember when the first stores opened in New Zealand – I fell in love immediately with all the clothes and I haven’t stopped shopping there since. Finally there was a store which had stylish clothes that actually fit me, it was amazing. I still have the first dress I ever bought from the Lambton Quay store. I haven’t worn it in years, but I can’t bear to part with it.

Although I have started to shop around a bit more and buy online, I probably still buy at least one thing from City Chic every few weeks. I can’t help it.

Aussie Curves – Monochrome

I love me a bit of monochrome dressing. Usually is is more the black than the white, but I’m slowly expanding my wardrobe to include a few more lighter colours.

I tend to dress in a lot of black, or at least have a base of black with one bright piece to stand out.

So I had the ideal top to use for Monochrome week and it has been dubbed my referee’s top.

There’s not much to say about this top – it’s a good one to wear with a pair of jeans and blazer for work and I can easily get away with layering it.

monochrome2

Today I’ve partnered it with my new ponte pants I picked up at Farmers’ sale last weekend and I have to say, ponte pants are amazing. They’re like leggings, but a much thicker material, so you can actually wear them as pants. I’ve been a little dubious about wearing this top with leggings, but it works amazingly with the ponte pants. I might be investing in a few more pairs for the winter.

I also picked up this wet-look waterfall blazer at the Farmers’ sale last week and it is glorious. It’s kind of a cross between a blazer and a jacket. I could easily wear it over a light jumper for an extra layer.

The waterfall blazer looks to be a big trend this winter – I’ve found similar ones at a few other stores as well. If you’re after one, have a look at these ones from ASOS, Ezibuy, City Chic, or the Farmers one I am wearing here.

Thanks to Ezmae from Flashion Affair for taking pictures for me today!

Also, don’t you love my derelict shed? It actually proved to be quite the interesting photo backdrop. It does have some uses.

Top: Farmers
Pants: Farmers
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Catch Coeur jewellery from the Rocks markets in Sydney

Aussie Curves – Tee

This week’s Aussie Curve theme is Tee. I have been thinking all week which tee to wear and trying to figure out which one I have available to me that I have not used in a blog before. I was almost going to pass on this week (because I’m sick, again), but then I remembered there was a t-shirt that I haven’t blogged about and that I do actually have in my tiny apartment wardrobe.

I’m sure you’ll all recognise it, it’s one you’ve seen many times before, just not on me.
